Neva River Rockets
The Neva River Rockets are probably the best and the most interesting band emerged to the world rockabilly scene from Russia. That is proved by two albums with a lot of original songs issued by a Swiss record label TCY-Records. By annual European tours which attract more and more people every time. By acknowledgements from influential persons like Sean Mencher from High Noon, Pete Hakonen from Goofin Records etc. By excellent guitar picking and own recognizeable manner of playing rockabilly music. By a number of Western singers wishing to have the Neva River Rockets as a backing band like Red Martin from Germany, Mr. R. J. from Holland and, this year, brilliant Karling Abbeygate from the USA.
The Neva River Rockets started in 2000. Since that time their music, playing manner and line-up have changed a number of times. In the beginning they were a plain teddy-boy rock'n'roll trio. In 2002 the band headed towards hillbilly and western swing and became a drumless string trio. With that kind of line-up the Neva River Rockets issued their first album called 'Rockets' Roll' and performed at 10th Anniversary Rockabilly Rave in the UK. They even were booked for a show at the famous Green Bay Rockin' 50s Fest II in 2005, and this might have been the first time a Russian hillbilly/rockabilly band performed in the USA, however their American tour was cancelled due to the visa problems (yes, Russians still need visas to go almost everywhere!).
In 2006 the Neva River Rockets concidered their drumless line-up as 'too soft for a real stuff', fired their acoustic guitar player, invited a drummer and thus became a red hot authentic rockabilly trio. This is now and future of the band. The second album called 'Moonshine Troubadours' was issued in 2007, followed by the special edition CD called 'I Wish I Was In Dixie' which was available for sale only on the live concerts and thus became very rare. The third album is hopefully coming soon. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
